Which Market Suits a Beginner

Markets differ for a beginner in four readable ways: their hours, the size of a day as a percent of the price, what a day is worth at the smallest lot in dollars, and the spread as a share of the day. This paper reads those four numbers for the euro, the Dow, gold and bitcoin on one real day, 25 August 2026, draws the day's size as the depth of a pool, and shows where a demo account lets the same reading be made on any row at your own broker. After reading it you can pull the four numbers for any market from its bars and its Specification, and the choice is yours to make with them.

A beginner's market, in five lines

Markets differ, for someone starting, in four ways that can be read before the first lot, a lot being the unit a trade is sized in. The hours: when the market is awake, against when you are free. The day's size: how far it moves in a day as a percent of its price, 0.24 percent for the euro and 4.01 for bitcoin on Tuesday 25 August 2026 in this library's bars. The smallest lot: what that day was worth at 0.01 lot, from 2.84 dollars on the euro to 91.58 on gold. And the spread, which is the gap between the buying and the selling price, as a share of the day's move. This paper hands you the four numbers. It does not pick the market.

The shallow end

Picture a pool with a shallow end. The water is the same everywhere; the depth is not. The marks along the top are four markets on one real day, Tuesday 25 August 2026, and the depth at each is how far that market moved from its low to its high as a share of its price: the euro 0.24 percent, the Dow 0.69, gold 1.97, bitcoin 4.01. A beginner learns to swim in the shallow end not because the water is better there but because a mistake costs less. The day's size is the number that says how deep each market is, and it is the one most people skip.
