What Is the RSI Divergence Strategy

The RSI divergence strategy is built on a higher high in the price that RSI, the reading of how hard the price has been pushing, does not match with a higher peak of its own. This paper shows you gold's two highs of 16 and 20 October 2025 from real bars, 51 dollars apart on the price and 6.8 points apart the other way on RSI, the idea as a bell swung higher that rings quieter, the two peaks on the daily chart, the strategy's four-point checklist filled in for that day, and the two trend lines that draw it on your platform.

Two highs, two readings

The RSI divergence strategy is built on one thing: a higher high in the price that RSI does not match. RSI is a reading from 0 to 100 of how hard the price has been pushing over the last fourteen days. Take gold on 16 and 20 October 2025. The second day's high, 4381.38, was 51 dollars above the first, 4330.32. RSI was 87.4 at the first high and 80.6 at the second: lower, while the price was higher. The two lines lean apart, which is what divergence means, and the strategy is written round that lean.

A bell swung higher that rings quieter

Picture a bell rung twice. The second time it swings higher, and it rings quieter. The swing is the price and the sound is RSI: the price went higher, and the push behind it was smaller. The strategy listens to the sound rather than the height, because the height is what everyone can see and the sound is what tells the two swings apart. A higher swing with a smaller sound is the strategy's cue. The whole of the strategy is deciding what counts as that, and what to do when it comes.
