What Is the Awesome Oscillator

The awesome oscillator is the gap between two averages of the candle middles, a five-day one and a thirty-four-day one, drawn as a bar for each day and coloured by whether the bar is taller or shorter than the day before. This paper shows you gold's two averages and their gap through 2025 drawn from real bars, the idea as a tug and a barge on one rope whose length is the bar, the bars under the daily chart through four months above zero, the arithmetic for one day, and the indicator on your platform, where there is nothing to set.

Two averages of the candle middles, and their gap

The awesome oscillator is the gap between two averages of the candle middles. Each candle's middle is halfway between its high and its low; average the last five middles and you have a fast line, average the last thirty-four and you have a slow one. The oscillator is the fast line minus the slow line, drawn as a bar for each day, green when the bar is taller than yesterday's and red when shorter. On 22 April 2025 gold's two averages were 256 dollars apart; on 18 July, one dollar.

A tug and a barge

The picture is a tug pulling a barge on one rope. The tug is the five-day average, quick to answer the price; the barge is the thirty-four-day average, heavy and slow. When the tug surges ahead the rope stretches long and taut; when the tug slows, the barge catches up and the rope goes slack, and if the barge overruns the tug the rope points the other way. The oscillator's bar is the rope's length, and its colour says whether the rope was longer or shorter than yesterday.
