What Is Williams %R

Williams %R is a reading from 0 to −100 of how far today's close sits below the highest high of the last fourteen days: 0 at that high, −100 at the fortnight's lowest low. This paper shows you the pound's fortnight to 1 July 2025 drawn from real candles with the close at −11, the idea as a bucket hanging in a well, the reading in its box under the daily chart, the arithmetic for one day and why the stochastic is the same sum read from the other end, and the dialog on your platform.

A ruler read from the top down

Williams %R is a reading of how far today's close sits below the highest high of the last fourteen days. Lay a ruler from that high down to the fortnight's lowest low, mark it 0 at the top and −100 at the bottom, and read the close off it. For the pound on 1 July 2025 the high was 1.37881 and the low 1.33697; the close of 1.37421 sat 46 pips under the high in a range of 418 — a pip being the fourth decimal place, the smallest step most people count in — and read −11. Near 0 is near the top of the fortnight; near −100 is near its bottom.

A bucket in a well

The picture is a bucket in a well. The rim is the highest high of the last fourteen days, the water is their lowest low, and the bucket is today's close. Williams %R is how far down the rope the bucket hangs, marked 0 at the rim and −100 at the water. A reading of −11 is a bucket just below the rim; −91 is a bucket almost in the water. The minus sign only says that the ruler hangs downward from the rim. It is not a sign that anything is wrong.
