What Is the Asian Range Breakout Strategy

The Asian range breakout takes the highest and lowest prices of the quiet Asian hours as a box, and watches the rest of the day for the first close outside either edge. This paper shows you the euro on 6 October 2025 from real quarter-hour bars, with a 41-pip box left at 10:30 and re-entered by 16:00, the idea as the box built while Tokyo is awake, the break out and back in on the chart, three real days that did three different things with their boxes, and the three lines that draw the box on your platform.

The night's box, and the day that left it

The Asian range breakout takes the quiet hours as a ruler. Here is the euro against the dollar on Monday 6 October 2025, from real quarter-hour bars. The shaded box is the Asian range, midnight to 10:00 on the feed's clock: 1.16902 to 1.17309, 41 pips — a pip being the fourth decimal place. The gold bar, 10:30, closed 23 pips under the box's floor; the day went 39 pips under it by 11:15, and by 16:00 the price was back inside the box. The strategy watches for the first close outside either edge, and this is a day on which the break came back.

Built while Tokyo is awake

Picture Tokyo's skyline with the sun up. The box is built while Tokyo is awake and Europe and America are asleep, when the price tends to keep to a narrow band, and it is finished at 10:00 on the feed's clock, when London's sun is up and its desks are open. The strategy does not choose the box; it takes whatever the quiet hours happened to draw, high and low, and uses that as the day's ruler. On 6 October the ruler was 41 pips long, and on other days it is twenty or fifty.
