What Is the Aroon Indicator

The Aroon indicator is two readings from 0 to 100: Aroon Up says how recently the highest high of the last twenty-five days was made, and Aroon Down how recently the lowest low was; a fresh high or low reads 100, and every day without a new one takes four points off. This paper shows you gold's twenty-six days to 22 April 2025 drawn from real bars, the idea as a sun that sinks four points a day, the two lines under the daily chart, one ruler with two scales, and where the indicator sits on your platform.

Twenty-six days, and when the top and the bottom were

The Aroon indicator is two readings from 0 to 100, and each one is a count of days. Look back over the last twenty-five days plus today, find the highest high, and count how many days ago it was made; do the same for the lowest low. For gold's twenty-six days to 22 April 2025 the highest high, 3499.96, was made on 22 April itself, zero days ago, and the lowest low, 2956.38, was made on 7 April, ten trading days ago. Aroon Up turns the first count into 100 and Aroon Down turns the second into 60. Every day that passes without a new high or a new low takes four points off.

A sun that sinks four points a day

Aroon is a Sanskrit word for the first light of dawn, and the indicator was named for catching a fresh high or low early. Picture a sun. A new high today is the sun at its highest, a reading of 100. Each day that passes without a new high the sun sinks four points: after ten days it reads 60, after twenty-five it is down on the horizon at 0, and it stays there until a new high lifts it straight back to 100. Aroon Up is the sun for the highest high, Aroon Down the sun for the lowest low, and the two move on their own.
