What Is RSI

RSI is a score from 0 to 100 that weighs the average size of the last fourteen days' up days against the average size of their down days: equal gives 50, bigger up days push it toward 100, bigger down days toward 0. This paper shows you gold's RSI drawn from real daily closes in 2025, the idea as a tug of war with a flag on the rope, the score in its box under the daily chart, the two averages and one line of arithmetic behind a single day's reading, and the dialog that adds it on your platform.

A score from 0 to 100

RSI is a score from 0 to 100 that weighs the last fourteen days' rises against their falls. Up days as big as the down days give 50. Bigger up days push the score toward 100; bigger down days push it toward 0. Under gold's price from February to May 2025 the score reads 46 on 7 April, after a sharp fall, and 72 on 22 April, at the top of a run of large up days. The dashed lines at 30 and 70 are marks on the scale that the platform draws by default, and nothing more.

A tug of war

The picture is a tug of war. The up days of the last fourteen pull one way and the down days pull the other, and a flag on the rope shows where the pull stands. Equal pulls leave the flag in the middle, at 50. Bigger up days drag it toward 100; bigger down days toward 0. RSI is where the flag is: a score of how the two sides have been pulling, made from the last fourteen days and nothing else. It is not a price, and it is not a forecast.
