What Is Position Trading

Position trading is trading at the scale of months and years: a trade held for a move the size of a year, through every week that goes the other way, and paying swap for every night on the way. This paper shows you gold's 52 weeks of 2025 from real bars, 36 green and 16 red inside a rise of 1,690 dollars, the idea as a tree planted and left, the year on the weekly chart, what 364 nights of swap come to at an example rate against the size of the move, and the weekly and monthly charts on your platform.

A year of weeks

Position trading is trading at the scale of months and years. Here is the scale, from real weekly bars: gold's 52 weeks of 2025, each candle one week. The year opened at 2640.90 and closed at 4331.66, a rise of 1,690 dollars, and inside it were 16 red weeks among 36 green, including a dip of 495 dollars from the high in late October. A position trade is held for a move the size of that year, through every red week on the way, which is what makes it a different kind of trade from the three shorter ones.

A tree, planted and left

Picture a tree, planted and left. It does not grow between one look and the next; it grows between seasons, and the gardener who digs it up each week to check the roots never gets a tree. A position trade is planted the same way: put in for a move the size of a year, and checked now and then for the shape of the year, not for what the price did since lunch. The weeks that go the other way are weather, not a reason to dig.
