Stochastic vs RSI

The stochastic and RSI are both scores from 0 to 100 made from the last fourteen days, and they answer different questions: the stochastic says where today's close sits between the fortnight's low and high, RSI says how heavy the up days have been against the down days. This paper shows you the two on the euro's real daily closes of 2025, the idea as a ruler and a pair of scales, both scores in one box under the daily chart, one day worked through both sums, and how to put the two in one box on your platform.

Two scores on the same days

The stochastic and RSI are both scores from 0 to 100 made from the last fourteen days, and they answer different questions. The stochastic asks where today's close sits between the fortnight's lowest low and highest high. RSI asks how heavy the fortnight's up days have been against its down days. On 1 July 2025 the euro's stochastic read 94 and its RSI 75; on 31 July, 5 and 34. The blue line runs to the edges of the scale and back within days. The gold line moves in a narrower lane.

A ruler and a pair of scales

The picture is a ruler and a pair of scales. The ruler is the stochastic: it says where today's close sits between the fortnight's low and high, and nothing about how it got there. The scales are RSI: they say how heavy the up days have been against the down days over the same fortnight, and nothing about where the close sits. A close can be at the top of its range after fourteen small steps, or a third of the way up after three huge ones. Where and how hard are different questions.
