Scalping vs Day Trading vs Swing Trading

Scalping, day trading and swing trading are the same market at three lengths of trade: minutes, one day, and days to weeks. This paper shows you gold's real bars from 28 October to 13 November 2025 measured with all three rulers — 8 dollars in ten minutes, 61 in a day, 358 in twelve days — the idea as a set of nesting dolls, the swing and the day marked on the chart, what each kind carries in nights and in spread, and the three timeframe buttons that choose between them on your platform.

One market, three rulers

Scalping, day trading and swing trading are the same market measured with three rulers. Take gold from 28 October to 13 November 2025. The swing ruler runs from the low of 3886.61 to the high of 4244.99: 358 dollars in twelve trading days. The day ruler is one candle, 5 November: 61 dollars from its low to its high. The ten-minute ruler is inside that candle: 8.18 dollars between 15:15 and 15:25. The three kinds of trader differ in one thing, which ruler they trade with, and that is the same as saying how long the trade is open.

Nesting dolls

Picture a set of nesting dolls. The ten minutes sit inside the day, and the day sits inside the swing, but each doll is a whole trade at its own scale, with its own open and its own close. A scalper's trade is the small doll: minutes long, for a move of a few dollars. A day trader's is the middle one: hours long, inside one day, shut by the close. A swing trader's is the large one: days or weeks, for the whole arc. Pick a doll and you have picked a clock, and everything else about the three follows from the clock.
