What Is Win Rate
Win rate is the share of closed trades that won. This paper shows you the sum on a list of ten real trades, the ten trades one by one with the side each landed on, why the sizes of the results and the order they came in play no part in the count, and where the two numbers come from on your platform.
Win rate is the share of closed trades that made money. The list here is ten real trades: one lot of the euro against the dollar bought at each day's open and sold at its close, on the ten trading days from 24 August to 4 September 2026, ignoring the spread — a lot being 100,000 euros and a pip the fourth decimal place. Four of the ten closed up and six closed down. Four divided by ten is 0.40, a win rate of 40 per cent. The sum counts trades, not money: how much each one made or lost is a different number with its own paper.
The ten, one by one
Here are the ten trades with the side each landed on. The four wins were 25 August, 27 August, 31 August and 3 September; the six losses were the rest. The count takes no notice of size: the 2.6-pip win on 27 August, $26, is one win, exactly as the 38.7-pip win on 3 September, $387, is one win. The 71-pip loss on 28 August, $710, is one loss, the same as the 1.8-pip loss on 2 September, $18. Four and six is the whole of what the win rate knows about this list.
