What Is the Golden Pocket

The golden pocket is the narrow band between the 61.8 and 65 percent marks of a Fibonacci retracement, 3.2 percent of the move tall. This paper shows you the pocket drawn from the euro's turning points in the autumn of 2025, with three pullback lows that went under it, into it and under it again; the idea as a pocket on a shirt; the band on the daily chart; the pocket measured on three real moves; and how to add the 65 percent line to the tool on your platform.

A narrow band on a real move

The golden pocket is the narrow band between two of the Fibonacci marks: 61.8 and 65 percent of the way back along a move. The euro against the dollar rose from 1.13916 on 1 August 2025 to 1.19189 on 17 September, and on that move the pocket runs from 1.15930 down to 1.15762 — seventeen pips tall, a pip being the fourth decimal place, the smallest step most people count in. Three pullback lows followed. 9 October went 34 pips under the band; 22 October stopped inside it, at 1.15767; 5 November went 108 pips under. The band is a place two marks sit close together, not a floor.

A pocket on a shirt

The picture is a pocket on a shirt. The shirt is the whole move, from its high to its low. The pocket is a small strip of it between two seams: the top seam is the 61.8 percent mark, the bottom seam is 65 percent, and the strip between is 3.2 percent of the move tall. Golden because its top seam is the ratio the marks are named for; a pocket because it is a narrow place on something much larger.
