What Is Social Trading

Social trading is copy trading with a crowd around it: a platform where traders' trades are posted in public as they happen, others read, comment and copy, and each trader has a profile with a growth figure, a risk score and counts of copiers and trades. This paper shows the platform as a noticeboard, one real EURUSD trade as a post in the feed, the profile with its figures left as labels, and the four tabs of the app. After reading it you can tell the social part, the posts and the talk, from the copy part underneath, and know what a profile's numbers are made from.

Social trading, in five lines

Social trading is a platform where traders post their trades in public and others watch, talk about them and copy them. The feed is a stream of posted trades and comments, newest first. The profile is one trader's page, with the trades, the followers, a growth figure and a risk score. The Copy button hitches your account to that profile, as in copy trading. The one real trade in this paper is a post: EURUSD, buy, 1.16526 at 10:00 on 25 August 2026, closed at 18:00 at 1.16695, 16.9 pips. Social trading is copy trading with a crowd around it. The trades are the same; the talking and the watching are the new part.

A noticeboard

Picture a noticeboard in a square. Each card is a trade someone posted, the pin is the time it went up, and the square is anyone with the app. Readers stop, read a card, leave a comment on it, and some pin their own account to it with the Copy button, so that the card's trades are placed again on theirs. The board never says which card to read. It only holds them up where everyone can see, and the crowd does the reading.
