What Is a Round Number Level

A round number level is a price that ends in zeros — 3000 on gold, 1.1000 on the euro, 100,000 on bitcoin — and is watched because it is easy to say, remember and draw. This paper shows you gold's first days at 3000 in March 2025 drawn from real candles, the idea as an odometer rolling over, the number as a line on the daily chart, three round numbers in three markets with the day each was first closed above, and how to mark one with a price label on your platform.

Gold at three thousand

A round number level is a price that ends in zeros. On 14 March 2025 gold touched 3000 dollars an ounce for the first time in history, reaching 3004.87, and closed under it. On 17 March it closed above it, at 3000.54. On 21 March, falling, it stopped at 2999.33, sixty-seven cents from the number, and closed at 3022.92. Nothing about 3000 is different from 2990 or 3010 except that it is round. That is enough to make it a price everyone watches, and a price everyone watches is a level.

An odometer rolling over

The picture is an odometer rolling over. From 2999 to 3000 the price moved one dollar, no more than from 2998 to 2999, but every digit changed at once and everyone looked. A round number is a price that is easy to say, easy to remember and easy to type: 3000, 1.1000, 100,000. The market does not know it is special. The people looking at it do, and they draw their lines there, and the lines are why the market pauses at it.
