What Is a Pip Calculator

A pip calculator says what one pip is worth in your account's money for a given pair and lot size, so that any distance on the chart can be turned into a dollar figure by one multiplication. This paper shows you the tool in five lines; the idea as a slide rule set once to the size; the value of a pip by symbol and size in a small table; the euro, the pound and gold from 10:00 to 18:00 on 25 August 2026 put through it at 0.10 lot; and the Specification window on your platform, where the contract size and tick value it is built from live.

A pip calculator, in five lines

A pip calculator is a small tool that says what one pip is worth in your account's money, where a pip is the fourth decimal place of the price. The pair, the lot size and the account currency go in, where a lot is 100,000 units of the currency; the money one pip moves the trade by comes out, and any move is that number times the pips. The plain case is the euro in a dollar account: one pip at one lot is 10 dollars, always. The euro rose 16.9 pips between 10:00 and 18:00 on Tuesday 25 August 2026, which is 1.69 dollars at 0.01 lot, 16.90 at 0.10 and 169 at 1.00.

A slide rule

Picture a slide rule. The fixed upper scale is pips; the sliding lower scale is dollars, and it is slid once to the lot size, here 0.10 lot where a pip is one dollar, so the two scales line up one to one. After that every pip distance has its dollar figure straight under it, read through the cursor. A pip calculator is that rule: the size is set once, and any move on the chart reads off as money without a fresh sum each time.
