How to Trade With the Trend

To trade with the trend is to hold a position that points the way the bigger chart is going: a buy while it rises, a sell while it falls. This paper shows you gold's eighteen-week rise of 2025 drawn from real weekly candles and the position that pointed with it, the idea as a canoe with the current, the three legs and two falls on the daily chart with the dollars each was worth at one lot, the same fall that is a downtrend on the four-hour chart, and where the platform writes which way a position points.

Eighteen weeks up, and a position that points up

To trade with the trend is to hold a position that points the way the bigger chart is going. Gold rose for eighteen weeks from 19 December 2024 to 22 April 2025, from 2582.67 to 3499.96, 917 dollars. The trend pointed up. A position with the trend was one that pointed up too — a buy, which gains when the price rises. A position against it was a sell. That is the whole of the term: the direction of the position set beside the direction of the chart.

A canoe with the current

The picture is a canoe on a river. The current flows one way and the canoe is pointed the same way. Every stroke of the paddle has the river behind it, and when the paddler rests the canoe still moves. The current is the trend. The canoe is a position pointed the way the bigger chart is going. Trading with the trend is choosing to point the canoe downstream: the direction is the decision, and the river does the rest.
