How to Set a Price Alert in TradingView

A price alert is a message sent to you when the price crosses a level you named, and setting one in TradingView is a box with a symbol, a rule, a number and a few tick boxes for how you are told. This paper shows you the alert in five lines; the idea as a smoke detector on the ceiling; the Create Alert box field by field; an alert at 1.16700 on the euro's real five-minute bars of 25 August 2026, set at 10:00 and fired at 12:05 when the price reached 1.16717; and the Alerts panel and the phone notice on your platform.

A price alert, in five lines

A price alert is a message sent to you when the price crosses a level you named. Right-clicking a price on the chart and choosing Add alert, the clock icon at the top, or Alt+A all open the same box. The condition is a symbol, a rule such as Crossing, and a number, 1.16700 here on the euro, fired once only or every time. It arrives as a pop-up, a sound, an email, or a notice on the phone app. In the example the alert was set at 10:00 on Tuesday 25 August 2026, when the euro's one-hour bar opened at 1.16526, and fired at 12:05, the first five-minute bar to touch the level, at 1.16717. It says that the price got there, and nothing about what to do.

A smoke detector

Picture a smoke detector on the ceiling. It was fixed there once, it is silent for weeks, and it goes off for one reason only: the thing it watches for arrived. It does not watch the room for you, and it does not say what to do about the smoke. A price alert is that detector. It is set once with one level, it stays silent while the price is elsewhere, and when the price reaches the level it says so, loudly, and nothing more.
