How to Risk the Same on Every Symbol

Risking the same on every symbol means the same money at the stop on each, and because a lot is a different thing on every symbol and a step is worth a different amount, that is never the same lots or the same pips. This paper shows you 100 dollars on the euro, the pound, gold and the Nasdaq index at their 17 December 2025 prices with example distances, giving 0.40, 0.40, 0.05 and 1.25 lots; the idea as the same pour into four glasses of different shapes; what one lot is on each symbol, drawn to its dollar value; the index on the fifteen-minute chart with an 80-point stop that is the same 100 dollars; and the Contract size, Tick size and Tick value rows on your platform's Specification.

The same 100 dollars on four symbols

Risking the same on every symbol means the same money at the stop on each. Take 100 dollars, one per cent of a 10,000-dollar example account, on four symbols at their real prices on 17 December 2025, with example distances. On the euro and the pound a pip at one lot is 10 dollars, and 25 pips gives 0.40 lot. On gold a dollar of movement at one lot is 100 dollars, because a lot is 100 ounces, and 20 dollars of distance gives 0.05 lot. On the Nasdaq index a point at one lot is 1 dollar on this broker's specification, and 80 points gives 1.25 lot. The money is the same on every row. The sizes are nothing alike.

The same pour into four glasses

Picture the same pour into four glasses of different shapes. The water is the 100 dollars, the same in every glass; the shape of the glass is what one lot of that symbol is, and the level the water reaches is the size. A wide glass takes a lot of water to reach a low line, a narrow one fills high on the same pour. Pouring to the same line in every glass, the same lots on every symbol or the same pips, would put a different amount of water in each. Risking the same on every symbol is pouring the same water, and reading whatever level that makes in each glass.
