How to Place a Trade in MetaTrader

Placing a trade in MetaTrader is five steps in one window: open it with F9, pick the symbol, set the volume, leave the two prices at zero for now, and click Buy or Sell by Market, and the trade comes back as a line in the Trade tab. This paper shows you the five steps in five lines; the idea as a waiter's order pad; the order window at 10:00 on 25 August 2026 with the real euro prices of that hour on its two buttons; the Trade tab at 18:00 the same day, 16.0 pips and 16.00 dollars at 0.10 lot; and the three doors into the window on your platform.

Placing a trade, in five lines

Placing a trade in MetaTrader is five steps in one small window. Press F9 or click New Order on the toolbar. Pick the symbol, EURUSD in the example. Set the volume, 0.10 here, where a lot is 100,000 units of the currency, so 0.10 lot is 10,000 euros' worth. The Stop Loss and Take Profit fields are the two prices at which the platform would close the trade for you, and they can be left at zero for now and set later. Then click Buy by Market or Sell by Market, and the trade appears as a line in the Trade tab within the second.

A waiter's order pad

Picture a waiter's order pad with three lines on it: what, how much, which way. EURUSD, 0.10, buy. The kitchen does not need to know why the guest chose the dish, only the order, and the pad is torn off and handed through the hatch. The order window is the same pad. Symbol, volume, and Buy or Sell are the three lines; the click is the tearing off; the broker's server is the kitchen, and what comes back is a line in the Trade tab saying the order was cooked, at what price.
