What we collect, why, who else handles it, how long we keep it, and how to have it deleted.
Who is responsible
Trading Papers runs thetradingpapers.com and is responsible for the personal data described on this page. For anything in it, write to hello@thetradingpapers.com.
Your account
When you sign up we collect your name, your email address and a password. The password is never stored as you typed it: we keep only a one-way scrypt hash of it, which cannot be turned back into the password.
On your profile you can add a country and a photo; both are optional. A photo is cut to a 256-pixel square and saved as a new image, without the information a camera stores inside a photo file, and only you can see it.
We also keep what you have bought and when, how long your Premium runs, the papers you bookmark, the date you joined and the last time you signed in.
Your learning
The placement test asks fifteen questions: five about charts, and ten about how you like to trade, including how you feel about risk and losing. We keep your answers and the learning path made from them.
As you study we keep which papers you finished and when, your quiz and exam results, your certificates and your points. The study area also has an optional form for personal details — first name, last name, email, phone and country; when you are signed in, what you enter there is saved with your study record.
So that your progress looks the same on the site, in the Coach and in a broker's academy, we also keep a short summary of it: your first name, level, learning path, how many papers and steps you have done, and your next paper. The summary also records your country, which our hosting provider works out from your IP address; we do not store the IP address itself.
Certificates
A certificate carries the name you entered, the course, the date and a code. The name is the one you type; it is not checked against any ID, and it must be your own. Anyone who has the code can open the certificate's verify page, which shows the name, the course, the academy, the issue date, the papers you read with the day you finished each one, your quiz marks and your exam score. Search engines are asked not to list these pages. Give the code only to people you want to show the certificate to.
The MT5 Coach
The Coach runs inside MetaTrader 5 on your own computer. When you link it to your Trading Papers account, it sends us your MetaTrader account number, the name of your broker's server, the account holder's name as your broker records it, and the version of MetaTrader. We keep these with the link, so that the Coach and your account stay paired. When you do a practice exercise in the Coach, it sends the kind of exercise, the instrument, the timeframe, the bar and whether your answer was right.
The Coach does not send us your balance, equity, open positions or trade history. Its journal is worked out on your computer and stays there. The Coach saves its link key and your account number in a file inside MetaTrader's own data folder on your computer. Unlinking the Coach deletes the link and your exercise results from our records.
If you study through a broker
Brokers who license Trading Papers give the academy to their clients under their own brand. If you join through a broker's academy link, a cookie remembers which broker it was, and that broker can see your first name, the full name on any certificate you earn, your country and language, the desk or team whose link you used, your level and learning path, the papers you finished and when, your certificates, and when you joined and were last active.
The broker cannot see your email address, your phone number, your Coach link or anything about your trading. We never report your trading results or your losses to a broker.
Messages you send us
The Talk to us form on our business pages asks for your name, your company, your email, a phone, WhatsApp or Telegram number, whether you want a call or a meeting, a preferred time and a message. We keep the request and send a copy of it to our inbox by email. Emails you write to us are kept in that inbox.
What we do not collect
No advertising trackers, no analytics that follow you from site to site, and no selling, renting or trading of personal data with anyone. We do not ask for your date of birth or your home address. Nothing on the site reads your trading account; the only trading-account details we receive are the Coach link details listed above. Nothing you enter on the site is sent to an AI service.
Cookies and storage in your browser
The site sets two cookies for readers. tp_session keeps you signed in: scripts in the page cannot read it, and it is sent only over a secure connection. It lasts 30 days if you choose to stay signed in (and after you first sign up), otherwise until you close your browser. tp-academy-b is set only when you arrive through a broker's academy link, and it remembers which broker's academy that was for one year.
Your browser also keeps a few things on your own device: whether you chose the light or dark theme; your study progress, so the site remembers where you are between visits and can save it to your account when you sign in; a random tag that keeps your progress apart from anyone else's on the same device; if you came through a broker's link, the desk or team named in it; and, for the current visit only, whether you are signed in and on which plan, the page to bring you back to, and whether you put the robot away.
All of this is needed for the site to work, and none of it is used for analytics or advertising. That is why there is no cookie banner: there is nothing extra to agree to. You can clear all of it in your browser's settings; you will then be signed out.
Who else handles your data
A few service providers handle data for us, each only to provide its service: Vercel hosts and runs the site and keeps short-lived technical logs, which include IP addresses; Turso hosts the database that holds accounts, purchases and progress; Cloudflare R2 stores the paper PDFs and covers, which contain no personal data; Resend sends our emails — password reset codes, and copies of Talk to us requests. Only people working on Trading Papers can open account records, through an admin panel that needs a password and an authenticator code.
Some papers come with a video. Its player loads only when you press play, from YouTube's privacy-enhanced address, and from then on YouTube's privacy policy applies. Partner brokers' logos, and in a broker's academy the images and videos that broker adds, load from the addresses the broker gives.
The links to partner brokers are the brokers' referral links: when you follow one, the broker can tell that you came from us. What you give a broker after that is covered by the broker's privacy policy, not this one.
Our providers' servers may be outside your country, including in the United States.
Why we are allowed to use it
We use your account, purchase and learning data to give you the service you signed up for. We keep sign-in records, failed sign-in attempts and technical logs to keep accounts safe, which is our legitimate interest. Your photo, your country and the personal details form are there because you choose to fill them in, and you can remove them at any time. We keep payment records because tax and accounting law require it.
How long we keep it
Account, learning, certificate and Coach data: for as long as your account exists, or until you ask us to delete it. A password reset code works for ten minutes. Failed sign-in attempts count for fifteen minutes. A sign-in lasts 30 days at most. Talk to us requests: for as long as we need them to answer you and follow the conversation up. Payment records: for as long as tax and accounting law require.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct it or delete it, ask us to stop using it or to limit how we use it, ask for it in a form you can take elsewhere, and object to how we use it. Write to hello@thetradingpapers.com from the email address on your account, so we know the request is yours. We reply within one month.
Deleting your account deletes your profile, photo, bookmarks, learning record, certificates and Coach link. We keep only what the law requires us to keep, such as records of payments. You can also complain to the data protection authority in the country where you live.
Age
The site is not meant for anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect data about children. If you believe a child has an account, tell us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
When this policy changes, the date at the bottom of the page changes with it. If a change affects what we collect or who handles it, we tell account holders by email before it applies.
